Legality of downloading eBooks for free if you own the printed copy
As explained in this article from the Consumerist magazine, it's completely ethical to download the eBook versions of books you already own, but it's illegal in the US.

When businesses put profits before ethics, it's only a matter of time before they will crash and burn. Sounds like something went wrong in the workflow, and you got inproper advice that in effect closed the door to future appeals. I think throwing words like unethical, scams, may not be fully justified because of this unfortunate event.

Lopez v. Apple email scam? | MacRumors Forums
I got an email with a link to deposit the Lopez v. Apple settlement check. I can't remember how I asked for it to be sent (check or direct deposit). It looks legit but most good scams do. Has anyone else received this email and used the link to deposit the check. $40 is not worth getting hacked.
