Trouble with Delta Airlines booking - Rick Steves
Would it be safe to assume there were partner airlines involved? Sometimes the two airlines booking systems don't play nice with each other. The Delta system will show availability, but when the time comes to actually ticket, the availability on the partner's system just isn't there.

US airlines, European airlines, Asian airlines. I've never had a problem...except one. One airline, Delta, does have and uses my middle name and it is the only airline in which I have had a problem. How far ahead do you buy airline tickets? - Rick Steves
Most airlines ( including Delta) release flights 331 days in advance. Thus today one can book as far out as October 20, 2020. I checked prices for a hypothetical round trip on Delta from Seattle to Paris ( the default setting for me) with the outbound in First and the return in Comfort Plus.

Contact Delta Airlines on line and explain the curcumstances. They will look after you.. Forget about the flight attendant and anything else extra. That will only divert their attention from the important matter. You paid for first class, got moved to coach and you want a refund for the service that youy paid for and didn't get.
